The Laboratory technician will be contributing to the University of Florida arbovirus research activities in Haiti. In this position, the Laboratory Technicien will work closely with other members of the UF Laboratoire de microbiologie in Lasalle, Gressier. More specific responsibilities and activities include:
• Perform molecular assays such as real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for viruses such as chikungunya, dengue, and zika.
• Be responsible for providing prompt results to project team members and ensure proper recording and reporting of data.
• Perform all work following guidelines and regulations of the University of Florida Environmental Health and Safety Department and any additional processes established by the project leaders.


Qualifications Requises

The preferred candidate will have most, if not all, of the following characteristics:
• A minimum of a Bachelor of Science in biology, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology or any related field is required.
• 2 years of previous laboratory experience is desired.
• Experience using aseptic techniques for laboratory work.
• Demonstrated experience with molecular assays such as RNA/DNA extraction and RT-PCR is desired.
• Previous experience working in BSL-2 laboratory settings is highly desired.
• Proficiency in English language required. A passing score for either ILETS or TOEFL exam is preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication and organization skills are necessary.
• Capacity to commute to the laboratory in Gressier area and maintain a working schedule of 40 hours a week, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
