Introduction

The Country Advocacy and Communication Officer will be responsible for implementing advocacy and communications activities that contribute to business development and support ongoing programs for the MSH Country Office in Haiti. Under the guidance of the Country Representative, the Country Advocacy and Communication Officer will work with country leadership, the Business Development Manager, and counterparts in the U.S. to promote and increase MSH’s leadership and contributions to the health sector in Haiti.


Fonctions

1. Advocacy – Assist in development of strategies to promote MSH leadership and contribution to the Health Sector:
• Oversee the development and implementation of MSH Haiti strategic communication and advocacy strategy;
• Conduct interviews with key stakeholders for national mapping and landscape analyses related to key health issues, drafting reports and key findings;
• Present MSH’s experience, tools and reports to external stakeholders and partners, and representing MSH at selected meetings, taskforces, panels and workshops;
• Participate in organizing and facilitating meetings and trainings with partner NGOs, government representatives, grassroots advocates, and community members to develop coordinated advocacy strategies and consensus messages;
• Contributing to the preparation of advocacy and informational materials and tools on major health priorities identified by MSH;
• Writing, reviewing and editing training and other programmatic tools as well as activity reports.

2. Strategic Communication – Define and implement communication activities aiming at positioning MSH for programmatic opportunities and placement in the development community in country:
• Work with Country Leadership Team and HQ to manage the MSH brand in country and develop communication products to promote MSH visibility in country;
• Maintain the Sales Force data base and ensure the country information on the MSH external and internal websites is continuously maintained.
• Support the Country Representative to promote synergistic operations of MSH and implement the Country Strategic Roadmap;
• Provide day-to-day management and coordination of country communication activities;
• Communicate and advocate for MSH capabilities within the donor community and public at large;
• Provide talking points and key messages to the Country Representative and Project Staff for key MSH visibility events and meetings. Prepare pitch notes, support preparation of speeches and presentations including preparing appropriate video clips and photographs;
• Provide talking points and key messages to the Country Representative in times of crisis.
• Work with Country Representative to develop and execute country strategy and annual country plans which support and link to MSH-wide priorities;
• Understand various project objectives and activities and develop communications strategies that roll-up into an overall communications strategy for the country office, working closely with County Representative and project staff;
• Increase the profile and disseminate MSH’s work and messages through planning and implementation of all country communication activities, including writing and managing the production and dissemination of fact sheets, success stories, publications, press releases, press briefings, articles, letters to the editor, blogs, and formal reports etc;
• Spearhead articles/news items for media and magazines;

3. Capacity Building to Project Staff and stakeholders on Communication Strategies:
• Provide capacity building to project staff and stakeholders on communications strategies and media relations and work to improve the quality of communication products developed;
• Support consultants and companies engaged for outsourced products;
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned


Qualifications Requises

• Required bachelor’s degree in communications, health communications, or public relations, or a related discipline.
. Master's degree preferred. • At least 10 years of professional experience in public administration and a minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience in communications.
• Ability to maintain good relationships with local and international media
• Excellent writing and the ability to develop and implement communications advocacy strategies
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including an ability to work and interact with country-based, home office-based project staff, senior leadership, project partners’ representatives, and donor staff;
• Ability to forge solid working relationships with Haitian government agencies, and with technical and civil society partners working in Haiti;
• Strong skills in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Suite Office and publishing software;
• Proficiency in French and English
• Proficiency in Creole is a plus
