Communications Officer


Fonctions

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Communications Officer is responsible for overall PADF’s communications, marketing and outreach activities in Haiti. He/She will liaise on a regular basis with PADF HQ in Washington DC.
Overall PADF Haiti activities:
• Work with the Country Director in order to assess PADF’s Haiti communications needs and opportunities.
• With the support of the Director of Communications at HQ and PADF’s Country Director, draft an overall communications strategy for the Haiti operations, and develop an implementation plan.
• Identify opportunities to improve or strengthen PADF’s image, public messaging, public relations, etc. and devise strategies and actions to implement them.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Media
• Draft press releases about PADF projects in English and French and deliver them to Washington D.C., for approval.
• Assist domestic and international media with stories that best reflect PADF (or directing reporters/producers to partners that best fit the story).
• Schedule interviews with PADF personnel and its partners in Haiti, ensuring that everyone has the right background materials (talking points, message, projected outcomes, donor info, etc.) and following up.
• Develop and present story ideas about PADF programs that may be of interest to the media.
• Update PADF website in a timely manner.
• Assist projects with their communication needs.

External Communications
• Develop, write and produce stories that may appear online or in print. (PADF expects at least four professional quality stories in English and French each month).
• Work with contracted video camera person, producer and/or editor to create videos of projects.


Internal Communications
• Help to enhance current internal system that distributes relevant information to all PADF personnel.
• Actively contribute to this internal communications system.
• Update the description of PADF’s list of projects in Haiti, presenting the information in a nontechnical format that is suitable for a general reader.
• Provide assistance with the gathering of information on Haiti for PADF’s Annual Report.

Outreach Campaigns
• Edit text for the materials.
• Obtain production prices with the support of PADF’s Administrative services.
• Assist in placement in the media.

Program support:
• Provide programmatic support to projects as needed: Report writing, translations, travel support and other programmatic support as assigned.

Perform other related duties as required
• Undertake additional assignments as requested by the Country Director and Senior Communications Director in Washington DC.

Working Relationships
• Interacts daily with the Country Director, all PADF staff in Haiti, and very closely, and on a regular basis with the other members of PADF Haiti senior management team as well as PADF HQ staff.

Representation
• Contribute to the creation of a positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through the application of the organization’s Code of Conduct, values and stand-point with regard to internal and external partners.


Qualifications Requises

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, PR, journalism, business administration, or social sciences (community development). Master’s degree preferred.
• At least three years of experience in communications, public relations, promotion or journalism.
• Knowledge of communication activities and communication skills, especially in communication for international non-governmental or social development organizations preferred.
• Interested in community development, environment and conservation
• Strong understanding of cultural, political and religious environment in the region, and be able to live and work successfully in those environments.

SKILLS:
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, French and Haitian Creole; knowledge of Spanish an asset.
• Willingness to be available sometimes outside official working hours.
• Acute sense of the importance of confidentiality.
• Effective presentation skills.
• Elementary skills at graphic design such as Photoshop/Illustrator or Corel Draw, skills at website administration and office softwares.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond appropriately to questions from senior managers in the field and HQ, counterparts, senior government and other related regional players.
• Knowledge of production process of print and electronic publications
• Ability to write reports and communication documents
• Creativity skills.
• Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
• Ability to work under stressful conditions and to meet sometimes tight deadlines.


Conditions de travail

Location : Full-time local position based at PADF Central office in Port-au-Prince
Entry date: As soon as possible
Duration of the assignment: One year, renewable
Deadline : April 11th, 2014
