Introduction

Living Water International exists to demonstrate the love of God by helping communities acquire desperately needed clean water, and to experience "living water"—the gospel of Jesus Christ—which alone satisfies the deepest thirst.

Nearly 21 years ago, we set out to help the church in North America be the hands and feet of Jesus by serving the poorest of the poor. More than a billion people in the world live on less than a dollar a day. 783 million people lack access to safe drinking water.

For all practical purposes, these statistics refer to the same people; around the world, communities are trapped in debilitating poverty because they constantly suffer from water-related diseases and parasites, and/or because they spend long stretches of their time carrying water over long distances.

In response to this need, we implement participatory, community-based water solutions in developing countries. Since we started, we’ve completed more than 10,000 water projects (and counting!) for communities in 26 countries.

It all began in 1990, when a group from Houston, Texas traveled to Kenya and saw the desperate need for clean drinking water. They returned to Houston and founded a 501(c)3 non-profit. The fledgling organization equipped and trained a team of Kenyan drillers, and LWI Kenya began operations the next year under the direction of a national board. That pattern continues today; we train, consult, and equip local people to implement solutions in their own countries. Remembering the life-changing nature of that first trip in 1990, we also lead hundreds of volunteers on mission trips each year, working with local communities, under the leadership of nationals, to implement water projects. It's hard to know which lives are changed more—those "serving" or those "being served." Our training programs in shallow well drilling, pump repair, and hygiene education have equipped thousands of volunteers and professionals in the basics of integrated water solutions since 1997.


Fonctions

1. Provide spiritual leadership.
• Ensure that the office has a high quality Christian ethos and operations plan that is appropriate for country context;
• Model a high standard of personal Christian leadership, ministry and integrity through lifestyle and work relationships, and provide spiritual guidance to staff on LWI’s mission and core values;
• Lead and organize regular devotional meetings.

2. Implement mandatory policy and procedures, including financial accounting systems, asset management, inventory, and maintenance procedures. Key elements of this include:
• Implementing and reporting water projects, hygiene education, and evangelism;
• Collaborating with local churches for locating and determining project sites;
• Managing and training of staff;
• Training office staff in PUMPS (custom project tracking software) and QuickBooks where necessary;
• Assessing program impact and recommending improvements to the WASH Coordinator/Program Manager;
• Assessing, maintaining equipment, and determine inventory needs;
• Maintain quality through compliances with Living Water standards.

3. Facilitate a structured hygiene and sanitation program throughout the Wash Program Areas and region.

4. Provide leadership in field operation and administrative functions to achieve the goals of:
• Increased operational efficiency;
• Equipment and inventory tracking;
• Financial accountability and reporting;
• Maintaining all NGO requirements in reporting, registrations and accreditations by government ministry offices;
• Network within the NGO community and surrounding ministries;
• Host and lead US teams and provide leadership to team members to endure a positive trip experience in order to cultivate future donors and water advocates;
• Mobilizing the local church in the communities for long-term program sustainability;
• Host vision trips with LWI’s development department and key donors.

5. Advise the Haiti Program Director of strategic local business and Government development.

6. Establish a working maintenance and evaluation program for pump follow up, hygiene education, and evangelism in the region.


Qualifications Requises

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in management or social sciences;
• At least 5 years of program management experience in developing country;
• Knowledge of local language and highly proficient in English (spoken, written);
• At least 2 years of experience in the WASH sector with program design, strategy implementation and leadership;
• At least 2 years of Community Development experience;
• Proven leadership skills and experience in managing a team;
• Experience in monitoring and evaluation of projects and their effectiveness;
• Has up to date knowledge of best practices in both national and international WASH strategies;
• Communicating orally/Presentation skills;
• Ability to work with minimal supervision;
• Civil engineering knowledge is preferred;
• Demonstrated ability to deal decisively with complex situations.
