UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) is a USA based international development agency that provides long-term technical assistance to developing countries. After the January 2010 earthquake, UMCOR intends to help rebuild Haiti focusing its activities in Tabarre, Croix des Bouquets and Port-au-Price in the program sectors of water and sanitation, shelter and livelihoods. It is implementing a three year integrated program that targets interventions across its core sectors on sustainable development programs, working in coordination with national and international agencies based on ongoing needs assessment in consultations with the communities.

UMCOR - Haiti is currently seeking a national Shelter Engineer. They will be based at UMCOR Haiti’s Port au Prince office.

The Shelter Engineer will be part of UMCOR’s Shelter and Reconstruction Program under the guidance of the Shelter and Reconstruction Coordinator.

The Engineer will report to the Shelter and Reconstruction Coordinator. Their responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

 Monitoring and assessment of construction works
 Management of contractors
 Conducting site management of construction activities
 Production of reports
 Measurement of completed work and make recommendations to Coordinator for payments
 Reviewing documents and other materials prepared by contractors and consultants
 Production of documentation in compliance with all relevant design codes and standards
 Carrying out design of repairs and new construction
 Production of BOQs, drawings and specifications
 Carrying out site surveys
 Carrying out and monitoring training

Must have a University degree in civil engineering, architecture or construction management
 Must have a minimum of 3 years construction experience
Must be proficient in Word, Excel, and AutoCAD
Must have good English language skills
Must be able to follow directions and work schedules
Must be a team player
Must have open communication
Must be willing to produce quality work and problem solve regardless of constraints
Must be willing to work in a diverse international environment
Must be pro-active and be able to take initiative
