Primary objective of the job
Network Planning and design for the transmission Backhaul. Responsibility will include installation and commissioning for transmission equipments
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Analysis of the survey results and recommendations produced by the Transmission Planners and Survey Engineers for the connection of new radio base stations BS to the microwave transmission access network
2. Provision of link budgets, quality and availability calculations, diversity protection, frequency planning, traffic analysis, routing and equipment allocation for new microwave links.
3. Incorporation of new microwave links in the backhaul transmission network for new base station sites as well as for backbone transmission links.
4. Carry out on a recurring basis the optimization of the transmission network design to ensure the optimum reliability and availability. This necessitates extensive studies with regards to frequency planning and interference, capacity utilization, also changes in the network topology.
5. Ensure the contractor receives a complete set of documentation for all new or changes to existing backhaul links. (This is a very important prerequisite prior to the microwave links being installed as the documentation contains all relevant data).
6. In Depth knowledge of IP technology embedded with transmission.
7. Provide support to Operations and maintenance for transmission troubleshooting as and when required.
8. Ensuring accurate records related to the overall transmission network are regularly maintained and presented in the form of a database.
Qualifications Requises
Academic qualifications and experience required for the job
• Degree in telecommunications / electronics engineering or equivalent qualification
• Minimum of two years (degreed) or six years (not degreed) experience in a telecommunications environment, preferably in the mobile telecommunications industry.
• A thorough practical and theoretical knowledge of microwave engineering and network design, also a proven record in carrying out IP technology.
• A minimum of two years practical experience as a microwave installation engineer and the ability to carry out associated tasks such as traffic routing, analyzing problems and providing solutions for their rectification
Functional Skills
• A high level of competency with the computer software Pathloss (or similar) which is used for microwave link engineering and network design.
• Have good analytical aptitude when problems in the network design are encountered and the ability to solve these problems.
• Good communications skills with colleagues and associates in work related disciplines.
