Partners In Health (PIH) and its sister organization in Haiti, Zanmi Lasante (ZL), have been working to improve access to dignified, high-quality health care for the poor and marginalized in Haiti for over 30 years. PIH/ZL currently works with the MSPP (Ministère de la Santé Publique et de la Population, MSPP) and its National Public Health Laboratory (Laboratoire National de la Santé Publique, LNSP) to support a network of 12 public laboratories that provide basic, intermediate and referral diagnostic services for PIH/ZL’s network of supported health facilities in rural Haiti. PIH/ZL has constructed a new, state-of-the-art reference laboratory in Mirebalais, Haiti to provide an unprecedented standard in the public sector for advanced diagnostics and innovative research which will dramatically improve clinical case management in Haiti. The laboratory is equipped for routine testing capacity as well as biosafety levels 2 & 3 (BSL-2/3) facilities to provide clinical and routine diagnostic services that includes microbiology, anatomic pathology, and TB/multi-drug-resistant TB (MDR-TB), all clinical areas of high priority in Haiti, as well as routine diagnostic services and test monitoring for patients receiving cancer treatment and antiretroviral (ARV) treatment.
Position Overview:
The primary role of the HUM Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor is to support, plan, organize, direct, evaluate and coordinate microbiology services within HUM, including both BSL2 and BSL3 laboratories. The HUM Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor is expected to collaborate with the Laboratory Director, Scientific Director and ZL Lab Coordinators, Boston laboratory and HUM clinical team in the development and execution of strategic plans and quality improvement plans, to provide quality care, and management of cost-effective services in line with HUM, national, and ZL/PIH regulations. The HUM Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor should be prepared to uphold the core values and principles of HUM and Zanmi Lasante (ZL), and to maintain key relationships with Clinical Managers, Administration, directors of services.
Fonctions
• Supporting and coordinating all the activities at the BSL2 (Diagnostic Microbiology) and BSL3 (Tuberculosis diagnosis).
• Support and participate in the implementation of routine TB/ MDR-TB laboratory diagnostics, which include sputum smear preparation, GeneXpert, line probe assay, culture and Drug Susceptibility Testing (DST) technologies.
• Support and participate in the implementation of routine and specialized microbiology tests for diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases.
• Provide leadership, management, supervision, support and training to microbiology technologists and technicians.
• Manage laboratory personnel and coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency in performance of assigned tasks.
• Recognizes and deals with priorities.
• Discuss results and findings of laboratory tests and procedures with physicians
• Assist, initiate, and implement new methods for diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases
• Implement and support quality assurance programs, analyze quality control data and present results to Laboratory and Hospital management
• Participate on Infection Control and other Laboratory and/or Hospital Committees.
• Analyze laboratory personnel’s performance reviews and make decisions for hiring and firing laboratory personnel in collaboration with Laboratory director.
• Create rotation schedules for laboratory personnel.
Qualifications Requises
• Bachelor on Microbiology or Bachelor in Science in the biology/health-related sciences plus Master degree on Microbiology or Public Health or health-related sciences will be an asset.
• 3-5 years of relevant laboratory experience and managerial experience
• Fluency in Creole and French. Medium to high level of English is required
• Additional training on biosafety and Quality Assurance
• Excellent organizational, teaching and communication skills
• Computer proficient, especially with Microsoft Office products
• Strong interest in social justice, health care, and international capacity building
