Summary

The Technical Advisor – Resilience and Agriculture strengthens the capacity of World Renew partners in environmental protection, agriculture, livelihoods and food security programming. (S)he will support the definition and implementation of emerging resilience approaches in environmental protection, agriculture, livelihoods and food security; and fosters linkages between World Renew’s livelihood and Innovation Working Group, World Renew partners in Haiti and their target communities, by taking a lead role in strengthening, updating and scaling out public and private based approaches to environmental protection, agriculture, livelihood and food security. (S)he will coordinate with various levels of the government of Haiti, with the World Renew Country Representative, with other NGOs and networks, including in the ACT Alliance, the Integral Alliance and the UN community.
The job is a contract position for three years. There will be an initial six-month probationary period.


Fonctions

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Strengthen the capacity of World Renew partners in environmental protection, agriculture, livelihoods and food security programming.
2. Support the definition and implementation of emerging resilience approaches in environmental protection, agriculture and food security; and work to foster linkages between World Renew’s Livelihood and Innovation Working Group, World Renew organizational partners in Haiti and their communities, by taking a lead role in strengthening, updating and scaling out public and private based approaches to environmental protection, agriculture, livelihoods and food security.
3. Responsible for applying, coordinating and further developing World Renew strategies related to environmental protection, agriculture, livelihoods and food security, with close collaboration with World Renew’s Livelihood and Innovation Working Group and World Renew partners in Haiti by advising, and developing methods and tools to improve and monitor environmental protection, agriculture, livelihoods and food security knowledges and techniques
4. Develop innovative approaches to use of local and national resilience in environmental protection, agriculture, livelihoods, and food security; and develop ways to blend these approaches with technical assistance to World Renew partners in Haiti.
5. Provide strategic leadership to improve the effectiveness of environmental protection, agriculture, livelihoods, and food security projects implemented by World Renew partners in Haiti and support communities to develop sustainable and resilient outcomes.
6. Provide technical support pertaining to environmental protection, agriculture, livelihoods, and food security linking World Renew partners’ interventions and innovations with more market focused food security programming.
7. Play a leading role in inter-agency partnerships with the Haitian government food security office, World Renew Conservation Agriculture & Resilience Consortium and other NGOs and networks, including in the ACT Alliance, the Integral Alliance and the UN community.
8. Visit World Renew partners to identify and evaluate their environmental protection, agriculture, livelihoods, and food security and/or technical needs and requirements;
9. Assist World Renew partners with environmental protection, agriculture and livelihoods, and food security projects planning, planning applications and grant applications.
10. Collect and analyze data, crop yield and financial reports to measure performance;
11. Organize and conduct field trials to find solutions to World Renew partners ' problems in environmental protection, agriculture, livelihoods, and food security;
12. plan and implement improvements for World Renew partners such as using more natural and effective pest control measures or finding more efficient ways to keep and feed livestock;
13. organize presentations, demonstrations, training and farm walks for colleagues, partner organizations and professional bodies;
14. communicate effectively, both in writing and orally, with World Renew partners, colleagues and members of the public;
15. Research and keep up to date with any relevant developments in environmental protection, agriculture, livelihoods, and food security.


Qualifications Requises

Qualifications
1. Mature Christian committed to serving Jesus Christ
2. Compassionate, respectful of other cultures and emotionally stable
3. Commitment to core World Renew development and relief concepts, models and values
4. Adventurous, proactive and able to work with minimal supervision
5. Demonstrated ability to implement projects for which he or she is accountable
6. Ability to negotiate with national and international governments and non-governmental organizations, community groups and organizations in a culturally acceptable as well as professional manner
7. Interpersonal communication skills
8. Basic competence in Microsoft Word and Excel required

Education and/or Experience
1. A bachelor’s degree in agricultural production, conservation agriculture or livelihoods or food security or equivalent in life and work experience
2. At least three years of cross-cultural experience
3. Minimum of five years of technical assistance provision / management, community development or organizational consultation experience
4. Knowledge of the Core Humanitarian Standards, the Red Cross Code of Conduct is mandatory

Language Skills
Good command of both written and spoken English as well as Haitian Creole and/or French
Physical Demands
1. Living conditions with unreliable access to water and electricity and increased exposure to illness
2. Stress of living and travelling in a developing country
