HelpAge International helps older people claim their rights, challenge discrimination and overcome poverty, so that they can lead dignified, secure, active and healthy lives. Our work in over 75 countries is strengthened through our global network of like-minded organisations – the only one of its kind in the world. Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti on 12 January, HelpAge launched an emergency response in partnership with its local partner organisations. It is committed to extending this into a longer term recovery and rehabilitation programme in support of older people in Haiti. We currently have a staff of 5 expatriates and 40 national staff in Port au Prince.

The HR Officer is responsible for providing an effective and legally compliant HR and administration service to the Haiti officer, advising the senior management team in Haiti on all aspect of HR. This will include providing support for recruitment and selection, induction and training, and performance management as well as professional dispute resolution. The HR manager will be expected to provide strategic advice to managers in terms of staff planning and development, as well as working with the senior management team to develop HR policies and provide good quality, appropriate and clearly communicated advice to managers on all aspects of HR management policy, practice and legal issues for national staff.

The ideal candidate will have a detailed understanding and knowledge HR management. Educated to degree level, with management or HR qualification, you will be familiar with Haitian labour law and have significant experience of providing management level HR support to a complex organization. Strong written and verbal English language skills are essential for this role, as are excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex issues both verbally and in writing. French language and previous experience with an NGO are highly desirable.
