Introduction

Job Description: This position is required to support and lead the public health community liaison position in filling the gaps of public health within the tent community/camps composed of people who have been displaced by the recent earthquake in Haiti. This is a supervisory position which will involve working closely with local “tent communities/camps”. The position will require field visits to the communities to provide information on sanitation and hygiene in an effort to prevent child illnesses and other diseases. The position works in conjunction with the clinical leads of all of the community clinics as well as the participating hospitals.
The public health lead will be responsible for creating and disseminating the following information among the public health team and should be able to provide supportive supervision to the liaison position providing information within the tent communities:
• The need to reinforce public health practices after a catastrophic disaster
• Disaster preparedness for vulnerable/special needs populations
• The risk of infectious disease after disasters
• Food and water safety after disasters
• Conducting rapid needs assessments
• Environmental health issues after disasters
• Basic home care for infectious individuals


Fonctions

Duties include:
• Conduct educational sessions for the public health liaison team members that will be used within the tent communities/camps
• Conduct needs assessments and focus groups among sites that will be added as expansion proceeds
• Develop and test public health information for community volunteers as well as public health liaison team members
• Conduct a public health train-the-trainer workshop
• Nationally disseminate module to the health ministry and other partners


Qualifications réquises

• Kreyol speaking
• Master of Public Health -OR- Master of International Education and Development with a Focus on Health
• Ability to collect, analyze and use data
• Strong ability to develop educational tools for immediate usage and dissemination
• At least one year experience in Public Health Preparedness
o At least one year experience in disaster preparedness and vulnerable populations
o At least one year experience in community organizing and empowerment
o At least one year experience in program development and evaluation
