Introduction

Build Change has extensive experience working in Banda Aceh and Sumatra, Indonesia and Sichuan, China. In Haiti, Build Change provides hands-on technical assistance and training directly to homeowners and builders during the rebuilding process to enable them to build safe homes that will withstand a future earthquake.


Fonctions

• Responsible for verbal and sometimes written technical interpretations/translations between English, French, and Creole on matters of construction, architecture, civil & structural engineering, in a variety of situations, including translation for / with:
a) Government officials
b) Construction professionals on construction sites
c) NGO representatives
d) Research materials
e) Industry executives
f) Other individuals as required
The Technical interpreter will be responsible for taking comprehensive notes of meetings/conversations.

Note: Translation of conversation or text must be kept to a direct translation of spoken or written language and the translator must not alter, add emphasis or de-emphasize, or in any way change the meaning of content of the conversation or text without direct instruction or acknowledgement from his/her Supervisor.


Qualifications réquises

• Diploma in a construction-related field including architecture or civil engineering education at the university level.
• A good understanding of construction terminology
• An understanding of good construction practices and the principles of earthquake resistant construction.
• At least three years of experience in construction design / supervision / inspection or other responsible position.
• Fluency in written and spoken English, French and Creole required
• Experience with technical interpretations.
• Good communication skills with the ability to make a clear presentation in public.
• Good organizational skills.
• Ability to complete tasks on a deadline.
• Ability to work cooperatively with a team
• An understanding of humanitarian principles and development ethics.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Internet, Excel, Word and other Office applications.
