Introduction

The Global Movement for Children (GMC) aims at uniting efforts from organisations, people and children to build a world fit for children. The main objectives of the GMC are to:
- Unite and coordinate a large global constituency of organizations and people to influence public opinion and organize collective action;
- Promote and support child participation;
- Influence and encourage political commitments and accountability.

In short, the GMC seeks to jointly promote global advocacy campaigns for child rights and accountability of governments vis-à-vis their children. In Haiti this partnership includes partners World Vision, UNICEF, Save the Children, SOS Children’s Villages, Compassion, YMCA, Konesans Fanmi, and Plan International. These organizations work across Haiti to promote child rights and support children and youth taking part in decision making processes.


Fonctions

The purpose of the GMC Haiti Coordinator role is to provide overall leadership to the activities of the GMC as they relate to the KPMG Grant: ‘A Haiti fit for Children’, and the overall coordination of GMC partners in joint activities related to child and youth participation and advocacy. The main focus of these activities relate to the empowerment and mobilization of children to be involved in the decision making process of the Haitian Government, the CIRH, the humanitarian coordination mechanism and other policy-making groups. Additionally they involve direct engagement by GMC partners to ensure that these groups are effectively using resources to address the needs of children. The GMC Coordinator will provide coordination to the GMC Haiti partnership which includes but is not limited to representatives from World Vision, UNICEF, Save the Children, Plan International, Compassion, SOS Children’s Villages and YMCA as they plan for, implement and monitor the activities. The successful candidate will be a strong Haitian advocate with a background in project management. The role may require travel to multiple departments in Haiti.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities
- Lead in the organization and implementation of activities under the ‘Haiti fit for Children’ grant and other activities as designated by the convening committee of the GMC. Activities include: Child consultations; Child rights conference; Youth-led conference; High-level government events; Capacity building activities; Production of a documentaries; Production of policy reports; Production of Child Friendly advocacy materials, Other as required.
- Manage consultants as hired to complete activities.
- Coordinate the participation and input of GMC partners in activities.
- Complete reporting on grant activities and budgeting as required by the KPMG grant.


Qualifications réquises

Experience:
- At least three years progressively more responsible experience with a national or international organization.
- Program management skills, including managing budgets and managing staff
- Relevant diploma from tertiary institution.
- Experience working with coalitions or networks.
- Experience in communications and advocacy preferred.
- Experience of community based work is preferred.
- Experience working in development or humanitarian agencies, with child focused work a preference.
