Introduction

Build Change (www.buildchange.org) is an award-winning, international non-profit social enterprise that specializes in post-earthquake reconstruction. Build Change has extensive experience working in Banda Aceh and Sumatra, Indonesia and Sichuan, China. In Haiti, Build Change provides hands-on technical assistance and training directly to homeowners and builders during the rebuilding process to enable them to build safe homes that will withstand any future earthquake.


Fonctions

• Conduct hand-on, practical training courses for builders and homeowner on how to rebuild safe, earthquake-resistant and culturally appropriate houses.
• Develop training materials and modules for use in the Build Change training courses.
• Assist with the development of social messages on good construction practices and in construction manuals.
• Coordinate with community organizations, local governments, NGOs and others to organize training activities.
• Coordinate with Build Change staff to ensure that training courses have the necessary materials and equipment and can operate according to the work schedule.
• Monitor and inspect construction projects and prepare quality control checklists.
• Liaise directly with the Construction Team Leaders and Construction Trainers in carrying out training support activities.
• Provide periodic reports to the Construction Team Leader.
• Coordinate with the construction training teams to schedule training courses in the Build Change calendar.
• Ensure that the project is implemented in an ethical, consultative, participatory manner with all participants.


Qualifications réquises

• Trade or vocational school diploma in a construction-related field or some architecture or engineering education at the university level.
• Minimum of 3 years in construction with hands-on knowledge of masonry, concrete, or carpentry.
• Some understanding of good construction practices and the principles of earthquake resistant construction.
• Good communication skills with the ability to make clear public presentation.
• Fluency in Creole and French. English language is a plus.
• Willingness to work in the communities most damaged by the earthquake.
• Good leadership and organizational skills.
• Ability to complete tasks on a deadline.
• Ability to work cooperatively with a team
• An understanding of humanitarian principles and development ethics.
