Fonctions

The goal of HELP’s Academic Department is to facilitate a transformative learning experience so that students have the skills and desire to work towards positive change. To this end, students participate in a two-year IT curriculum, a four-year English curriculum, and a four-year C&L curriculum.

Inspired by the Social Change Model of Leadership, HELP’s C&L program also includes a community service/ community organizing requirement, organized by the Service-Learning Program (SLP). Throughout the length of their scholarship, all HELP students participate in a Literacy-Development initiative (Year 1), an Environmental Protection initiative (Year 2) and develop and implement their own community-based initiative (Years 3 &4), which often involves a local partner. While not a requirement, students may also choose to extend their initiative through the summer period through our Summer Service-Learning program.


Qualifications réquises

Minimum Qualifications :
• Bachelor’s degree (in a related field)
• Three years of experience in program management, campus organizing, service education, civic engagement and/or working with Community-Based Organizations required. (Experience in Haiti is strongly preferred.)
• Excellent communication skills, ability to multi-task, ability to work under high-pressure situations and adapt quickly to change
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to use word processing and spreadsheet programs (Excel, Word)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to read, write, and speak English and Creole. French is an asset.

Conditions de travail

Specific tasks include:
• Field work: Collaborate with HELP students, staff and community partners to organize, implement and evaluate mutually beneficial and sustainable community actions and service-learning initiatives. (approx. 15 hours per week. Almost all of these hours are during the weekend.)
o Identify potential partnership and assess current partnerships.
o Assure communication with partners so that expectations are clear and met.
o Support students in organizing schedules and activities.
o Review and evaluate student participation and outcomes.
o Regular visits to partners and service project activities (including evenings and weekends).
• MEL: Implement MEL tools to measure impact of community initiatives and student learning. (approx. 10 hours per week)
• Teaching: Effectively teaching and evaluating the Standards of Learning associated with each year at HELP. (5 hours)
• Administrative duties: reports, resource management and meetings, representing the SLP program to donors, ensuring that the Environmental Protection Protocol is implemented, and reinforce as necessary. (approx. 10 hours/ week)
