Introduction

HelpAge has a Caribbean Regional Office in Kingston Jamaica and local partner organisations in a number of countries in the region including Haiti and Dominican Republic. A small programme office was recently established in Port au Prince to focus on emergency and DRR work in Haiti.

Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti on 12 January, HelpAge launched an emergency response in partnership with its local partner organizations. It is committed to extending this into a longer term recovery and rehabilitation programme in support of older people in Haiti.


Fonctions

Under the supervision of the Logistics Officer - primarily to coordinate the vehicle maintenance schedules and shifts of HelpAge drivers to meet the travel needs of all HelpAge staff and to include monitoring of/assisting in the maintenance/upkeep of other related areas, (ie. energy producing/energy-using items in office and staff accommodation units) of the logistics operation as necessary.

•Maintain a system for staff to book drivers in a systematic way, with scope for emergency bookings at short notice when required.
•Obtain transportation needs of HelpAge staff as early as possible, and use these to design the schedules of the drivers.
•Manage the drivers’ shifts to ensure adequate transport cover for personnel.
•Make travel arrangements for all official businesses.
•Ensure vehicles are properly maintained and serviced when necessary.
•Ensure generators are properly maintained and serviced when necessary.
•Ensure the emergency/reserve fuel stock is always maintained at the required level
•Maintain records, (costs and quantities) of fuel consumption of all assets, so as to produce monthly reports /analysis to include any anomalies noted.


Qualifications réquises

Logical, organisational capability in what can be a stressful working environment.
Ability to work on one’s own initiative within the parameters of being part of a team.
Driving licence essential – the position sometimes involves standing in as a driver.
Mechanical knowledge preferred.
English speaking an advantage.
Previous experience in a similar work environment/situation would be useful.
