Introduction

CARE is an international NGO gathering 12 national organizations working together at the implementation of more than 1000 emergency and developping projects in about 70 countries around the world.

CARE is present in Haïti since 1954. Regarding our emergency programs, we are looking for qualified people in their own respective fields and particularly, a "Data Analyst/Writer".


Fonctions

Purpose
The Data Analyst/Writer plays an internal role in supporting CARE’s emergency response team with its information needs. S/he assists the Country Office in the coordination of information related to the emergency situation and CARE’s response in order to serve the internal and external information needs. Where necessary s/he will also support the Emergency Team Leader on information needs and internal information management.
This role does not include representing CARE at external meetings.

Responsibilities and Tasks
1. General
• Gather information on the emergency situation and CARE’s response for use in emergency response, fundraising, and communications activities and reporting.
• Assist the Communications Team with the production of creative written materials, i.e. blogs, monthly reports, newsletters, etc.
• Identify solutions to information constraints and shortfalls.
• Assist the Emergency Team Leader in the management of expectations of CARE International Members and CERT Team around information provision related to the emergency.
• Attend internal meetings, review existing documentation, meet with CARE staff and undertake field visits as appropriate to remain up to date on the unfolding emergency situation and CARE’s response.
• Assist Country Office to produce necessary materials to disseminate information throughout CARE International and the country coordination mechanisms. These materials include: situation reports, programme strategy, fact sheets, briefing notes and any others requested by CARE International members or coordination bodies.
• Assist CERT members with information collection.
• Support the Emergency Team Leader in collecting and coordinating information on the emergency situation for various aspects of the emergency response as needed and negotiated.
• Attend external meetings to collect information for CARE (NOTE: in the role, this position would NOT represent CARE, but act as administrative support for the CARE representative).
2. Data Entry and Analysis
• Oversee data entry in each sector; ensure the data entry is consistent across sectors, regular and comprehensive, and compile data into an integrated and comprehensive reporting document.
• Regularly collect data from each sector on CARE’s emergency response activities and input into the appropriate software application for analysis and interpretation.
• Convert numeric data into graphs that allow for analysis, reporting and story telling.
• Recognizes trends in data analysis and shares information via a written report with the Emergency Team Leader and Emergency Team.

• Degree from a recognized institution in statistical analysis or a combination of education and relevant work experience.
• At least 3 years work experience in data analysis.
• Three to five years writing experience
• Experience working for an NGO desirable, but not a requirement.
• Fluency in written and spoken French and English essential.

Technical Competencies
• Superior knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word and its various functions.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Ability to assume responsibility for data collection, processing and analysis.
• Superior written communications skills, including three to five years writing experience.
• Ability and interest in writing creative and narrative stories and reports.
• Ability to transform data from a variety of sources and formats into data acceptable for analysis.
• Ability to recognize weaknesses in data collection and to suggest and implement new procedures.
• Experience in data analysis and problem solving with large amounts of data.
• Experience using spreadsheets to conduct trend analysis.
• Ability to present data graphically for a non-technical audience.
• Understanding the sensitivity of information around CARE’s emergency response and ability to assess internal versus external information.
