The Lab Specialist Job Description

• Provide proper guide to laboratory staff.
• Participate in periodic assessment of laboratory to identify gaps related to quality system and accreditation and provide corrective action.
• Assist in establishing and strengthening quality assurance systems for laboratory tests and procedures.
• Conduct regular technical assistance visits to partner sites to ensure that each site performs at an optimal level of efficiency and effectiveness.
• Share and discuss with the leadership of each site the issues identified and the proposed solutions.
• Assist to set as system of performing continuous laboratory quality improvement.
• Provide guidance to ensure that overall laboratory management procedures follow respective national guidelines and comply with all regulatory requirements.
• Collect, synthesize, and transmit data & information related to laboratory utilization.
• Establish and maintain good working relationships with appropriate government institutions, major partners (LNSP) and other partners working on HIV/AIDS and other programs.
• Ensure the regular maintenance of the partner sites’ lab equipment and train the lab staff to use the lab equipment properly and adequately.
• Assist sites’ lab staff to develop and display Standard Operating Procedures for every single lab test.
• Ensure that all sites’ lab staff are trained in lab biosafety measures and procedures.
• Make regular follow-up with sites’ lab managers to prepare and submit timely the monthly consumption report and forecasting to PSM.
• Represent Alesida2 project in technical meetings and workshops with LNSP, PEPFAR implementing partners and other relevant institutions.
• Share and discuss immediately any issue related to laboratory with your supervisor for a prompt resolution.
• Make sure that all laboratory tests performed with PEPFAR funds comply with Quality Assurance requirements of the LNSP.
• Ensure that each site’ lab workspace is clean and safe for the staff and the patients.
• Collaborate and share data with the Strategic Information Team and other relevant members of the technical assistance team for timely reporting and decision-making.
• Document and share in writing the practices and successes for the sake of reporting and Sante network improvement.
• When necessary, organize on-site or central training workshops to level up the site’ staff on misunderstood or new lab concepts/program areas.
• Perform any other relevant or punctual task that is deemed essential for the laboratory section.


Qualifications réquises

• Advanced degree, master’s preferred.
• 4 years of experience supporting lab improvement
• Strong understanding of lab improvement techniques
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills in HIV/AIDS, Family Planning and Maternal, Newborn and Child Health services.
• In-depth knowledge of approaches to quality improvement and health performance
• Demonstrated training and mentorship skills.
• Proven leadership skills, as well as skills in training, facilitation, team building and coordination.
• Strong change management, written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines, and intense pressure to perform.
• Excellent systems management and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated self-management (i.e., motivation, dealing with pressure, adaptability).
• Proficiency in French and Creole; English desirable.
• Must be familiar with common editing software: MS Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability and willingness to travel to sites on a regular basis.
