Introduction

The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Assistant will be under the overall supervision of the Programme Manager (Migrant Protection and Assistance) in Haiti and the direct supervision of the National Protection Officer. In accordance with the objectives of the various projects and considering the activities to be implemented for the assistance to migrants and internally displaced persons (IDPs), the successful candidate will undertake the following tasks:


Fonctions

1. Provide psychological first aid and routine psychosocial frontline support to IDPs and migrants repatriated to Haiti and support the assistance upon their return and to facilitate their reintegration.

2. Organize bilateral consultations, and/or Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and “Groupes de Paroles” with vulnerable migrants and internally displaced persons (IDPs) – depending on the context, needs and practicalities.

3. When needed and relevant, refer migrants and IDPs to adequate structures/partners to receive the appropriate mental health and psychosocial support.

4. Facilitate the organization of trainings on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support and Psychological First Aid (PFA), both internally and with partners and authorities.

5. Maintain the protection databases updated with information on all the beneficiaries who received psychosocial counselling, support and referral.

6. Assist in providing primary routine psychosocial support to IOM staff and their family members, notably those affected by kidnapping and other security events. Refer any complex cases to official psychologist experts

7. Carry out field monitoring visits when required.

8. Provide monthly reports on activities undertaken, progress of activities including challenges encountered.
9. Perform any other duty as may be assigned.


Qualifications réquises

Education

• Bachelor or equivalent diploma in Psychology
• At least 5 years of professional experience in the field of psychosocial support
• Strong communication skills are a must
• Good computer literacy (Excel, PPT, Word) and good administrative skills
• Ability to liaise independently with partners and government actors.

Experience

• Be available to work on weekends and public holidays in the case of an emergency and participate in regular on-call roster for weekends and public holidays.
• Experience working with NGOs/UN agencies is an advantage
• Demonstrated experience and confidence in field work
• Flexibility, ability to work in difficult situations including in IDP sites
• Strong communication skills are a must

• Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure, available.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team of colleagues from diverse cultures and professional backgrounds.

Languages:

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.

For this position: Fluent in Creole/French; working knowledge of English and Spanish an advantage.
