Following the earthquake in Haiti on 12 January, HelpAge launched an emergency response in Haiti and is committed to extending this into a longer term recovery and rehabilitation programme in support of older people in Haiti. We are now looking for Assessment and Monitoring officers to define humanitarian needs of older people in earthquake-affected areas, ensuring HelpAge’s programme is coordinated with other agencies and to monitor the activities of HAI and its partners in order to assess the impact and lead to improvements in the effectiveness of the programme.

The responsbilities of the A&M officer are:
• To contribute to the design of the assessment and monitoring forms to be used in the field by the A&M team.
• Follow rigorously the methodology defined for all assessment and monitoring activities carried out in the field.
• Complete in the field, as clearly as possible, the questionnaire or forms developed for assessment and activities.
• In collaboration with the A&M Team Leader, establish every Friday the planning for the following week of the A&M team.
• Occasionally, participate in the data entry of the information collected in the field.

• A degree-level education or equivalent work experience
• Experience of working with an INGO or a community based organisation
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills: able to communicate and interact with a wide range of people and organisations at all levels with tact and diplomacy
• Flexible and strong team player.
• Able to manage and prioritise own workload to meet deadlines.
• Good attention to detail.
• A good command of written and spoken English and French languages.
• IT skills of a good standard (including WP, spreadsheet and database)
• Understanding of the humanitarian environment and the issues involved in the implementation of emergency programmes (including humanitarian principles and standards, co-ordination mechanisms, security concerns), as well as commitment to humanitarian principles and action.
