In response to the major humanitarian crisis caused by an earthquake in Haiti, IOM is mobilizing staff, including local staff, to assist the people and authorities of affected areas.

General Functions: Under the overall guidance of the IOM Haiti Chief of Mission for administrative matters and under the direct supervision of the IOM Site Planning Project Manager, the incumbent will provide field assessment, community relations and coordination support to the Site Planning Team in project activities.

Specifically, he/she will:

1)Participate in site assessments and collecting data from the field.

2)Be responsible for communicating the project activities and other issues to the beneficiaries.

3)Train camp managers and residents on technical issues and supervising the works

4)Provide technical support to the project under the direction of supervisor


5)Train Camp Committee or Daily Workers on ground works like drainage canals etc. and small scale carpentry

6)Supervise and mentor residents in Cash for Work activities


7)Collect accurately technical data from the field

8)Support project team with technical input


9)Support the Site Planning Team in coordinating with the national and local authorities

10)Serve as translators and resource for Site Planning Team activities


11)Undertake other duties that may be assigned from time to time which are commensurate to the position.

Education in Engineering. At least 2 years of experience in supervising construction works. Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Experience in liaising with community groups preferred. Ability to give clear and concise verbal and written reports.

Capacity to work with minimum of supervision; strong organizational skills. A commitment, drive for results and effective resource management skills are all required. Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds is also necessary.

Languages: Thorough knowledge of English and Creole. Working knowledge of French is an advantage.
